post by Greg of Neuspeed on vwvortex

Well the 1.8T Challenge officially started this morning so I guess I can tell you what car we brought, if anyone is still interested. While Peppy (aka xXx Turbo) was running his mouth off a few months ago, we were busy working in the race shop. We figured he was creating all the PR we needed to convince our competitors that we were going to bring a K04 powered Golf. Thanks Peppy!!
Earlier this year, we acquired a 1996 ex-Audi Sport Germany A4 Quattro Super Touring Car. Some of you may remember the A4 SuperTouring cars in the hands of talented drivers like Frank Biela and Hans Stuck, among others. Ours was the #003 chassis built by Audi Sport and it was used as their R&D car. In 1996-97 the car was run in the Australian SuperTouring series. Then it was sold to a racer in Finland who campaigned the car for a few years in a regional series there.

When we got the car, it was in pretty sad shape. It had been run for several seasons without a rebuild. The car had to be stripped down to the bare chassis and every part rebuild, or in many cases, new parts had to be fabricated from scratch since we did not have any spares. Plus, we had to tear down the engine and convert it to forced induction. As a result, our engineer Jeff Lowell spent nearly 4 straight months designing parts in Solidworks so that we could run prototypes in our machine shop.

Basically, when we were done with the car, this is basically what we created:

Hybrid Audi A4 SuperTouring Car

2.0L turbocharged engine with custom made rods & pistons, and a Turbonetics turbo, controlled by a Motec engine management system. Custom fabricated intake manifold and intercooler. We ran this engine out of the car on an engine dyno an got a peak number of 470HP at the flywheel.

Ricardo/Audi Sport 6 speed (straight cut gears) fully sequential transmission with full throttle shift capability.

Quattro drive system retained with a carbon fiber driveshaft.

Fully adjustable suspension using NEUSPEED racing springs, Koni 2812 racing shocks, and cockpit adjustable sway bars, on board air jacks, etc.

Alcon brake calipers with prototype lightweight brake rotors (material spec to be supplied later)

Carbon fiber hood, front diffuser, front undertray, interior panels, dash, center pod, etc.

19" Speedline magnesium pin drive racing wheels with 19" Michelin Pilot racing slicks.

For those of you who said we wouldn't, or couldn't DO IT, you seriously underestimated our company and the dedication of our team. For those of you who supported our company and defended us against the flamers, Thank You. There were people here at the company working 7 days a week, 14-16 hours a day, just to make sure we didn't let you down. This car is for you.

Best Regards
Greg Woo

Default well...it does LOOK like crap.

And I'm pretty bothered by the fact that Neuspeed took a race car, changed some stuff, and claimed it as their own. Pretty lame move. Let's not forget that they couldn't even bother to make the car presentable.

Once again...as a tuner they should actually be TUNING the cars.

Ghey.
