I have a 98.5 1.8TQM and I have this strange metallic rattling noise which seems like it's coming from around the cat. It sounds like dragging a piece of thin metal along a cement floor. I just installed a borla exhaust so would an exhaust leak sound like that? I checked my heatshield and it's not loose. Thanks in advance.

just got it back from the dealer and they found my exhaust manifld loose replaced gasket and bolts per my order and fixed the problem

When in the cabin it soundsas if a metal ball was shaking realy fast in my engine...

I installed my Borla early this summer and am experiencing the same issues. I get a chirping noise when starting from a stop then a metallic/loose heatshield niose when the engine is under load. The post below got me to go check the exhaust mainfold and I had my dad watch the cat/dp as I reved the motor. Around 4K RPM you could see moisture escape between the cat/dp. Guess I should have put a new gasket in when I installed the exhaust... time to place and order w/ ECS. BTW, the noise wasn't as noticeable outside the car with the hood up as it was from within the car or driving w/ the windows open.
