possible engine problems???

i just got in my car.. and from the moment i started it i knew something was wrong.. it makes this tickin noice... from the engine.. and as the rpms increase, so does the shaking (ratling) of the engine.. and then when my step dad drove it down to the garage there was lil bit of white smoke.. my car is 1.8t quattro 65k miles.. havnt replaced timing belt.. or water pump yet.. but this definetly feels like its comming from the engine.. anyone else experienced or know anyone who has experienced such a thing?

NOOB! 2001~2002 had huge problems. basically loosing a piston because no spark. reduced power,

i dont think there would be a ticking. maybe an unbalance or something
