Possible tranny problem???(help!)....
I posted yesterday that I had felt a significant hesitation and that the check engine light flashed on while driving on the highway to work that morning. This has happened twice over a span of 3 months. One of the replies mentioned a possible tranny problem that could be diagnosed by taking the engine up to 5500 rpms in first gear and listening for a grinding noise as it revved down.
Well, I tried the test and did notice a strange intermittent grinding noise between 5500-4500 rpms. This was definitely not the "normal" sound of the engine. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal? The person who wrote the reply is having it checked out by an audi rep today because the dealer could not isolate the problem.

I have a 98.5 1.8TQ Tip and the check engine light comes on periodically, monthly or so.
I can only encourage you to have the codes cleared by a dealer so that you can record the event on the service records, and have a clear history for the next event.
The dealers don't seem to want to do anything about this.
