Default Possibly stupid question about using jack stands...

I'm assuming that the jack stands should be placed in the same spot as the jacking point, right? How do you do that if the jack is there?

But isn't that the same place you put the jack to raise the car?

Default Switch em ... real fast.

There is enough room for both if you are careful with the jack location.

Default Best placed to put the jack stands is someplace very hard,

Like the subframe. DO NOT let the full weight of the car down on a jack stand if it is touching any part of the unit body (under the car), including the pinch weld. The pinch weld is intended for the factory jack only, and will get damaged if you set it down on a jack stand. There are places under the car that are intended for the service lifts, these can safely be used with floor jacks, though I like to use a hockey puck as a protective pad when lifting there.

I use the pinch weld but I use a wood block on top of the stand notched for the weld.

Default That's fine, as long as the block is hard wood. Don't try that with a pine 2x4.. ;-)

Actually Wood is a great protector when Jacking, and you get a little more extension from your jack and stands.
