Power Steering problem...

'98 30V, 195k- replaced the PS pump about 1 year ago. I flushed the system several times by topping it up, running a few minutes and sucking the fluid out. Everything fine until now; got the whine really bad. When the pump went, it was the bearing and probably did contaminate the system. No real bad leaks. Is it just air that makes the whine noise? I have had to top up so I know there's a leak but I'm parked outside right now and haven't located it. What about rack seals? Is that a DIY?

If there's air in the system you should see the fluid in the reservoir foaming

No foam... So what's the whine?

take rubber boot by the upper tie rod and push it back. If fluid shoots you in the face.. it's the

seals.. replace the rack

My assumption would be the pump is bad again

but i'm no expert. I've never had to deal with a bad rack (knock on wood). I was under the impression that the only things the cause the whine are a bad pump or air in the system.

Thanks.. I looked at the boots...

last night and they were dry. I may have a leak in a line somewhere. It is a little wet under the resevoir but I had fluid blow out from the cap being too loose. I need to clean the whole area and start looking for a leak. That would explain the whine and when full, it's OK. Thanks, C.
