Default Power window BT: Common parts to replace....?

In an attempt to avoid getting stuck somewhere inconvenient with my pants (err, window) stuck in the down position, I'd like to do a little PM on driver's side window components. I know it'll need a new regulator and possibly a motor(?), but are there any other plastic bits and pieces that are known to break? Besides the window going up veeeeeeeery slowly and sometimes needing a grab upwards, I'm hearing some not so comforting noises in there sometimes. Thanks in advance.

Default Why replace what you don't have to?

Just replace the parts labeled 'cheap plastic' with the A6 pink plastic/metal parts( few bucks each). You will need to modify the parts by filing and screwing on a piece of 1/16" flat stock. But the results are great.

Only replace the entire regulator if you aren't willing or able to do the above repair.

Default Because some day, undoubtedly, it will fail.

And #2 I don't want to get "in there," ready to replace my plastic clips only to find that wasn't really the only problem. 135K miles....they don't last forever. Keyword here is preventative.

I use my windows a LOT, so it's something I don't want to take the chance getting stuck somewhere with an inoperative window. In the grand scheme, I would rather spend $100 up front on something that has been prone to breaking, in various places. From my archive search, it's not just the clips that break, apparently the pulleys can fail as well.

I'm more than willing to do the repair, just not willing to do this repair twice.

Thanks, I did find that one...doesn't look like anything else is 'sold separately' eh?

Default Not necessarily

I fixed the guides on my car. The guides were clearly the problem and the rest of the regulator looked and functioned fine. The clips were an under-designed part in the system.

My comment about changing the clips is merely to warn you that you will have to make some homemade modifications to the parts. Many people don't want to do that or are unsure as to how to proceed, and would rather just change the assembly to be on the safe side, or to save time.
