Problem with new ECS RA4 clutch...
#23
So I figured I'd update since I have about 500 miles on it. It still seems to squeal and jump a little, but it is better. The only thing is the pedal feel seems to be inconsistent. It is definitely more grabby most of the time, but seems to take a long time to engage sometimes. I've replaced the slave cylinder and ordered a master cylinder so maybe thats causing the issue.
I'm having some similar issues with a B6 and the ECS RA4 Stage 1 clutch kit. My mechanic has installed several of these and believes it may be the slave cylinder. The weird thing is the inconsistencies (works fine sometimes, chatters and slips occasionally, and everyonce and a while is horrible causing shaking and check engine light).
Was wondering if you had any luck after replacing cylinder(s)?

Whoops, I forgot to give an update since I've figured everything out. Basically, I found out the squealing noise was actually coming from a poorly installed flex pipe (don't use a flex where you need a bend, it will squeal on you haha).
The slippage and consistency of the clutch's engagement finally smoothed out after probably a good 5k miles. I still notice it might bite on me every now and then but that's probably somewhat typical of an aftermarket clutch/flywheel.
If you're having inconsistencies then I would definitely look at replacing your slave and master cylinders. They're both not ridiculously priced on ECS and it would definitely eliminate some possibilities of failure. When my slave when out, though, it was kinda all or nothing. Clutch pedal just went completely soft, but would magically start working again.
After replacing both slave and master, as well as the RA4 kit and the mods to the FW, I've had no issues with my clutch in the last two years.

Thanks, Jason.
Actually, I will say I did call you guys and you were a bunch of help! It really didn't end up being any issue with ECS or the parts. If anything I wish the steel flywheel had a better finish because that could have been what was making the engagement inconsistent, but I've heard that's common on most all steel flywheels.

Glad we could help! The steel should engage no problem. I'm curious if when it was installed it was cleaned properly because it does have a anti-corrosion film like that on brake rotors that needs to be cleaned off with brake cleaner.
Or the rear main seal could be leaking oil on to the engagement areas.
