Problems installing a compass
With a little experimentation I've determined that the operation of the engine, climate control, radio, etc. are not the problem, as I first suspected. If the compass is anywhere forward of the front seat backs (approximately), it is wildly inaccurate. If it is in the back seat, it is quite accurate (as it is when outside the car). Turning on the engine makes little difference. If I had eyes in the back of my head I'd be all set.
Anyone have better luck with a compass installation? Are there better compasses that can accurately compensate for the apparently strong magnetic fields in the front seat area? Any other ideas?
With the supplied double-sided foam tape it mounts perfectly on the colored trim just below the left side air vent. After calibration to adjust for the car's electro-magnetic fields (takes about 45 seconds) it works very well. It also has the indiglo-style backlight. It costs about $50.
