Default Projector Headlights Questions?? Where to buy??

I own a 96' a4 and am looking to get a set of projector headlights to replace the halogens. I don't know much about lighting and I've seen threads for E-codes, Euro, US Halogen, H7, and whatnot. I have no idea what any of this stuff means. I just want the new looking headlights and do not want to spend like $1000 for the Xenon's. I really don't even know the difference. What do I want and where do I go? What kind of costs are affiliated with such a job??

Default ecodes

are european spec headlights, which means that they do not have the orange reflector in the side. if you don't care about the orange reflector, then you can just pick up a set of headlights from an audi a4, 1999.5 or newer. they will have projector low beams and reflective high beams.

most people go for the ecodes if upgrading your headlights, you can get one piece or 2 piece. one piece look better, but you have to trim your fender to make them fit properly. i have 2 piece ecodes and they look great. you can get them for less than $400 in many places online. lltek.com sells some, but they are offered for cheaper in other places like ebay...

HID (high intensity discharge) headlights are much brighter and use lower wattage, along with burning a gas instead of a filiment. aftermarket HID headlights are now illegal, but you may still use them at your own risk. they are the more expensive ones, 350-600$ for a set.

if you get HID ecodes, which are made for hid bulbs, then that will cost in the thousands.

look around for some ecode headlights, 1 piece or 2 piece depending on if you want to trim the fender or not

Default check out the A4 European Non-Xenon Headlight Housings listed here....

These are ecodes (one piece lights with clear corners). Im pretty sure this price includes bulbs. You would have to trim your fenders to get the one piece lights to fit and there are probably some modifications to the wiring. Not sure how much this would cost. Hope this helps.

This is what they look like on the car by the way...

Default actually no it isnt considering...

that price is for xenon lighting, and lltek doesnt carry junk products, their service may lack a bit but their products make up for it

"you get what you pay for"

i got my non-xenon 2-peice projectors off of ebay, they were just under $300 without bulbs, they look great but i wonder how long they will hold up, i dont have anything to compare them too as far as other aftermarket lights but they seem a bit cheaply made

ECS tells me that they won't fit in my 96. I though 97's had the same structure??

Default I thought 96 and 97 were the same but ECS definitely knows better than I do....

I would try to ask around to see if anyone has 1 piece lights on a 96. Check out the post below and try looking for moribundman. He might have a better idea of whether or not you can go to 1 piece lights. I would also suggest asking on the 12V forum, they might have an answer. Hope this helps.

post about lights
