There was a large piece of the honeycomb material that was broken off, turned sideways & almost completely blocking the outlet of the cat. There was about 1/2 inch by 1 inch area for the exhaust to flow. No wonder the car would barely run.
Job wasn't terrible. Turbo to cat bolts came off easily. Cat to DP bolts were a PITA. Whole job took about 3 hours total.
Intial impressions are that the car runs alot better than before the problem, but I guess that makes sense with the freed up exhaust flow.
No CEL yet, but I'm sure it will come soon.

i have the pony express MIL eliminator....
it does work but on realy hot days ill still get a code (cat below threshold), and now n then i get an intermitent short one, i think thats a bad splice on my part though. im going to get a new rear sensor and try the spacer trick. people use spark plug "anti-fowlers", 2 of them stacked, you have to drill the one the O2 sensor goes into to clear the dome of the sensor, i hear it works realy realy well.
