Default Question

Is it possible to chip your car without sending in the ecu? I dont know if "chip" is the right term here. A friend of mine found this thing for his WRX that plugs into the ecu, has a bunch of programs on it, is completely removable, and undetectable when unplugged. Do they make something like this for Audi?

TIA

Default yes kinda

it's called a socketed chip. so it can be 'unplugged ' and stock chip needs to be used... you still have to get the ecu to a tuner to socket it on though

Default On a socketed chip, you can take out the aftermarket part and have a normal one with...

no detection? And can you purchase a spare ecu so you still have a car to drive while the other is at the tuner?

Default Yeah, so basically B5ers are screwed unless you have a 2001.5....

It has to do with the technology of the Audi at the time. From that year on, Audi's had something done to them to be able to support a programmed ECU.

Default Revo and APR have the programming software. Typically you can get a 5 hour test with revo if

you know the tuner. Try before you buy is nice.

Default yes but why buy a spare ecu.....?

if you find a local tuner that does it (where are you located) , make an appointment and have the chip socketed onto your ecu......i had my GIAC done at AWE and it took less than an hour.
You also keep your stock chip.
If you need to go to a non-chip friendly dealer , you unplug the aftermarket chip , plug in the stock one , do the TBA <----- must do. ... and your good to go.
