I have about $8k to spend on a used a4 with about 80k miles. I'm getting a manual trans and quattro. my question is which engine should i get? I was planning on modding, so i know the 1.8t is better in that aspect and my parents owned a passat wagon 1.8t and it pulled pretty well, but is the 2.8 a lot better in another area or something? Also, what should i look for when i'm looking at a used a4 with this kind of mileage? your help is greatly appreciated.

1.8T....Check if timing belt has been done.

see what shape brakes are in. if you want to mod get the 1.8, the 2.8 starts out stronger, but is generally harder to get more power from... i know it's not that hard, but 1.8 tuning seems much more readily available and pretty cheap to start out. $400 for a chip will get you a big bang for your buck.

but whatever way you go... upgrading the suspension is a great step to take. handling is key.
