Default A question for those people who wax their wheels . . .

. . .to help prevent brake dust build-up and make it easier to remove: What wax do you use? Thanks in advance.

Default I'd just use whatever you have handy.....

...I use Mother's Carnuba (in a can) which I don't use on my paint anymore (much prefer One-Grand Blitz wax). Prior to applying the wax, I use a polish to help clean up the wheels.

Default The best defense against brake dust is aftermarket pads...

I got sick of having nasty, dusty wheels, so I put a set of EBC GreenStuff pads on all four wheels and I was amazed. Almost no dust whatsoever. All the wax in the world is no substitute for less brakedust to begin with.

Great way to get everyone around you thinking you've lost it.

Default That's exactly what I use! Mother's Carnuba (in a can). Now I buy it just for wheels!

Originally I used it for the same reason you did. It was lying around unused, I was using One Grand Blitz on the car. But when I tried to clean the wheels I found out that Mother's Carnuba wax took off the stubborn break dust stains I had on the inside of my wheels. Before that I tried to use everything including the break dust cleaner spray but a few black streaks on the inside of the wheels would not go away! I then said scr3w it, noone is going to see them and proceeded to wax. To my surprise the oil in the wax took the stains right out! Since then I only use Mothers on the wheels.

Default I use Klasse All-in-One

It is acrylic based and will last a lot longer than wax. The issue with wax is that is is susceptable to heat and will breakdown under extreme conditions. Klasse will not.

Also, I recommend P21S wheel cleaner.

jussnb, however, says it best in that getting rid of the oem pads will make life much easier. I used to clean my wheels every 3-4 days and with my Mintex Redbox pads, I can go over a couple of weeks before they get covered with dust.

How is performance and rotor longevity affected (if at all)?

Default Less dust => harder pads => reduced rotor life, but...

1. I am not sure if it is anything to worry about.

2. Some people had stock rotors with stock pads replaces at 20-30K. Depends on the use I guess.

3. A4 rotors are relatively cheap and easy to replace.

Default I replaced my stock rotors with ATE PowerDiscs, so I'm not really sure how they would affect...

stock rotor longevity.

Still, less dust means less work...and that means greater longevity for your back.
