I either clean it every other oil change or every third oil change. The last time I took my car in for service the tech said that they are good filters as long as you keep them clean. It also depends on where you live and on what type of roads you drive on. Might sound like thats too often, but it probably doesn't hurt to clean it regularly.

It didn't need the cleaning. 50K sounds fine and when I plan to do the next cleaning.
