Quick question on keyless entry remote

I just bought a 98 A4, and I noticed that the keyless remote on works when I'm about 3ft from the car, is that normal or do I need a new battery?

the older A4's have a really crappy remote range.

I've found that when my car is on (turbo timer mode), the remote range is beyond 50ft....but when the car is off, I'm lucky to get 10 ft.

there is a TSB out for that - iirc it is like a $30 part to fix it

It extends the antenna to the rear bumper area since the alarm is under the rear seat.

bugbbq is right...have a 99 with same problem

I bought a 99 A4 7/2002 and had the same problem so I replaced the battery. New battery was effective a foot further away...
