quick ?...taking my car in to get serviced on monday...
this is the first service under my purchase...(just picked up 8/18/01). got_root discovered i have a code that gives away my ECU has been tampered with, (chipped when I bought it). Should I mention it to the service guys along with a 50 dollar bill or something, or just forget about it and give him the cash not mentioning it, hoping they will just overlook it for hooking them up. I'm kind of worried they'll pick up on this and not preform the service work I need. Any ideas on how I should approach this/ what would you do?

Find someone with a VAG tool and clear the codes.
I wouldn't go the route of bribery. Hey, you bought it used. You had no idea it was chipped! Chipped? What does that mean? Is that bad?

I guess it would depend which chip you are running...
But a spare ECU does help. BTW I take mine to Steven's Creek Audi...I got the "Slot 30" code when I took it in for the 10000 mile service. This basically means that the ECU was pulled. They noted this on the service record but they didn't really do anything....Just play the naive role "what chip?"
