My wife has an 98.5 A4 Avant. She was having problems with the Bose Radio with the CD changer. The dealer replaced the radio. The replacement radio does not sound as good as the original, but the dealer says it is the same Bose radio. The replacement radio says Audi Concert. How can I tell if this is the Bose or the Audi radio?

My 98.5 Avant is non-Bose; on the cassette door sez 'Audi Concert', then to the right has the Dolby symbol.

I would bet that if it is a Bose unit, would say Bose someplace.

You have your original stereo owner's manual? Do the pictures/features match what you have?

Bose and standard system both share the same Concert head unit. Bose has better speakers, with the word Bose on the grilles, and an amplifier. Not sure where the amp is... should be somewhere by the CD changer.

The head Concert unit has to be placed in "Bose mode" by entering some codes. I believe in Bose mode when the stereo is turned on it should display the word "Bose". To configure the stereo you will need to program it with either a VAG1151/1552 or VWTOOL.

...or perhaps you can bring this info to your dealer.

Same unit. If programmed as Bose, will display "BOSE" on power-up.
