Rear brake job causes ABS error codes.....WTF?
My buddy did a rear brake job on his FWD A4, and right afterwards, the ABS light came on. He brought it over and we VAGed it, a rear right ABS sensor code came up. I pulled the sensor, cleaned it, and put it back in. 1 mile later, the ABS light came back on, this time it was a rear left ABS sensor code. Pulled the sensor, cleaned it, replaced it, still a rear left ABS sensor code.
Any idea what's going on here?

From old Coupe experience, sensor placement is critical
I don't know the details of the ABS sensor installation on the A4 (FWD or Quattro), but remember a similar problem on my old Audi Coupe. Sensor had to be placed a fixed distance from the disc/hub - too far or too close and the ABS would not work.

Help me out, what is the sensor ring??
I took the wheel off to inspect the brake job, and pulled the sensor out to see if I could identify what the problem was. There was no ring that I saw...is this a washer of some sort between the hub and the sensor?

It's a large ring ~5" diameter.
It mounts on the inner side of the brake rotor, and has has a series of slots all the way around the ring. Maybe a hundred or so slots.
It gets removed from the old rotor, and slightly tapped onto the new rotor.
Without it, you'll instantly get an error.
