Default remote question and a little brainstorming - tell me if I'm in the right track!

1st the question: how far away can you use your key/remote? I got a brand new one from the dealer (so I'm assuming new battery also) but it doesn't work from very far away. I just did the remote windows up/down mod with VAG-COM and I have to basically stand right next to my car to use it - which makes it kinda pointless to have.

Anyway, my brainstorming: I have an autostart on my car, so I have been using it's remote for everything. I found out it doesn't do the windows up/down (I think the signal is more of a pulse than a steady one, so it unlocks but doesn't hold to roll windows down) so now I'm back to carrying both remotes, one for the autostart and another for windows up/down. The problem is that it gets pretty bulky to carry in your pocket.

So.... I was thinking about getting one of the newer switchblade keys with the middle trunk release button and try to program my autostart to start off that. I'm not a pro on how those things work, but it seems like I could make it work..... right? Or am I missing something obvious? (wouldn't be the 1st time =D )

Default sounds like a clever idea...

and I can understand your dilemma. The key fob bulge is nothing to brag about. As for reprograming the Autostart....that would require more cleverness than I can muster. Good Luck.
