REPOST: (Gremlins!) -- RPMs hanging between shifts.
Do others consider this annoying? When upshifting, I let off the gas, put in the clutch, and the RPMs just sit there for a second. On the same note, if I accelerate to about 3500 RPM, and quickly take my foot off the gas, I don't feel any engine braking right away. It just sort of coasts for a second. I'm assuming these are interrelated. Checking the archives revealed something about a "dashpot?" but most info was inconclusive.
Is this for emissions purposes? I have heard this goes away after chipping. Have others found this to be true?
ChrisWB
99 1.8tqm

When upshifting, I let off the gas, put in the clutch, and the RPMs just sit there for a second.
Yup, sounds like mine prior to getting my Wett chip. The stock chip seems to be setup for "lazy" shifting whereas the Wett chip rewards a quicker shift.
On the same note, if I accelerate to about 3500 RPM, and quickly take my foot off the gas, I don't feel any engine braking right away. The stock chip seems to coast as if it were equipped with an automatic transmission. I found this behavior annoying as I constantly had to tap my brakes to slow the car just a little bit. After installing the Wett chip, the engine braking is much more dramatic.
Andy Hedin
'97 A4 1.8Tqms, Wett 1.0 Bar, ABT Filter, Euro Headlights...
Agree; this is a FI control effect
If I'm decelerating with foot off gas and push in clutch, engine speed drops reasonably. If doing a normal shift whre am on gas and lift to do shift, speed hangs up. Definitely in fuel/air control gizmos.
Now, looks like a chip helps the 4-bangers. How about the 30V V6?
