Default Repost: Massive scratches in aluminum right below the shifter? How can I fix it?

I dont really understand how it got so beaten up ( I am not original owner, looks like key gouges). What could possibly be dangling of somones wrist that low?

Anyway has anyone fixed this problem and how does this piece come off? Do I need to take the whole console of? Found one thing in te tech section but it was an A6. Any links or how to would be really appreciated.

*Last nights post*

Default That piece can be replaced, there is a few different color options avail too

Aluminum Silver, Aluminum Black, Ive seen actual colors available somewhere as well.

You probably need to pop the black surround off, pull the shifter **** off, flip it over, pop the entire changer mechanism out, then you should be able to pop the cover off.

They did it on someones car on Audizine, so check there

If you try to polish it it will probably just loose the finish.

Does the whole console need to come off or just the black rubber around the aluminum?

Default The whole...that's why I said it's PITA to replace that thing when I replied to ur last post.

It's not like it can't be done, but it just takes time. If it's not done right u'd be able to c gap / misalignment between those trims. Even dealers have trouble to re-install those things. I'd try to use some kind of polish / wax / scratch remover be4 replacing that thing.

Default Take it off...get it polished then get it chromed.

Chrome is pretty tough to scratch. I don't think the shifter surround is chrome right now, but I could be mistaken. Expect to pay at least $30 or so to chrome that piece.
