My A4 from 97 has not been running in about a year now, we got everything that should be needed done. Just did the timing belt and fixing some other stuff but when we go to get it running it idles rough around 1k rpms then drops down to 700 and then to 300rpms before dying. I can't seem to find any other issue. The coolant sensor is all over the place but we just replaced that. It doesn't run longer than a minute unless you rev it up. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you scanned for codes? How old is the fuel? When is the last time you changed the fuel filter?

If the fuel pump hasn't been replaced, I'd suspect that.
