RS4 wheel recall sorry if this is a repost
The following was cut and pasted from aol i tried linking but it didnt work
Safety fears of sporty Audis has led the manufacturer to invite owners to a day of high-speed testing of it RS4 estate at Millbrook testing circuit.
Doubts over the strength of the RS4's alloy wheels prompted a flood of complaints from owners.
Audi says the wheels are designed to collapse when driven into objects at certain speeds in order to protect the suspension. The 380bhp wagons will be driven into wooden obstacles at progressively faster speeds to demonstrate their strength and establish at what speeds they will deform.
A test driver will then take owners round the Bedfordshire track on the deformed wheels performing high-speed manoeuvres to prove the car is still safe to drive to the limit of its capabilities.
Safety questions have been raised about other sporty Audis following a spate of collapsing suspensions. Thousands of S3s, TTs and A3 quattros were recalled after a handful of drivers lost control of their cars due to the wheel folding into the wheelarch.
Interestingly the RS4 in the picture which acompanies this has RS6 wheels.
