RSX Type-S vs A4 QM 1.8T GIAC 1.0 bar
#43
Do you own a video camera? Do you know anyone with an RSX-S? Do you live near NY?
If I had access to a camera and someone with an RSX S I would video tape their demolition for you.
Show me one bone stock RSX-S that traps anywhere near 97mph...not going to happen, not without Hondata's help. I've spent enough time at enough 1/4 mile tracks to no this first hand.
And no, I raced a real RSX-S, and the outcome was the opposite of your prediction. Too bad you got spanked, perhaps your car is just slow, or maybe you can't get the most out of it.
6k rpm still is high for peak power to come on...you still have to rev up to 6000rpm, and by that time I'm already in the middle of my powerband pulling away from an RSX-S.
A quattro car is losing 22% drivetrain loss, a FWD Acura, probably around 15%. Now I'm no mathematical genious, but 15% off of RSX-S 200hp and 142 ft-lbs would put the RSX-S at 170 whp and 121 wheel torque. A 1.0 bar A4 after drivetrain losses of 22% is still making 165+ hp to the wheels and 190 ft-lbs. Nearly the same HP and FAR more torque.
Factor in the powerbands...1.8T will be making peak torque from 3000 rpm all the way until 5000+, and peak HP at 4500rpm to 5900rpm or so (I have the dyno printout to PROVE it). The RSX-S is an anemic pig until it hits VTEC (which I never bashed btw) and for 2000rpm is making hardly anymore HP and far less torque.
Now tell me, based purely on numbers, which looks like it has the edge? But **** the numbers, numbers aren't real life. Common sense, as you put it, would dictate that the A4 1.8T with 1.0 chip would be faster, hmmm.

From what you are saying..
It seems as though you are talking about a 55MPH 5th gear pull or something...
maybe the RSX driver does not know how to stay in the powerband : ie start off in the right gear.
Looking around Honda-Tech and asking some type-S driving friends, the slowest traps are 93-94 at 81 degrees F and ~70% humidity.
Stock.
You still left the extra 400 lbs + we have over RSX-S's...
I'd really like to see your video of you "destroying" a RSX-S on the highway, that would be very interesting.
Maybe you got a special 1.8T.
Any weight loss mods? besides the chip.

No weight loss mods, no other bizzarre mods, nothing to give me any extra advantage.
and a real highway pull, with both cars in the right gear.
The A4's extra 70 ft-lbs of torque (at a much better RPM range too) more than makes up for the extra 400lbs the A4 is packing.
Think about it, 70 extra ft-lbs to the wheels, that's half of the torque that an RSX-S makes at the crank!
The HP specs are damn near identical to the wheels. Like I said, if you could arrange a race, I would be more than happy to have it filmed...whether or not I won or lost.
