My 97 A4 2.8Q is making a rumbling sound (rumble- rumble-rumble)when I decelerate from 60 to 40 mph. It is a very deep sound. Below 40 the sound goes away. I hear it above my tires whrring. I've had the car about 4 weeks, tires are new, balanced and aligned. I had a loaner 97 A6 from the dealer and it too made a similar noise.

Is this an Audi 'thing'? Could this be the engine breaking? Bent wheel?

Any ideas/suggestions?

Try to determine if it is RPM dependent or speed dependent with and w/o the windows open.
