Default S4 driving impressions

Audi brought a (imola?) yellow S4 to our most recent meeting, in addition to providing dinner, Sept 11th. I'll try to make this short.

I definitely like the way it looks, has a more aggressive look to it, I suppose it's due to the the painted side skirts, 17" tires, and the lower positioning than the sport pkg on my A4. I also definitely like the new stereo set up. To get to the meat of it, the exhaust note sounds great. Acceleration is very strong. I must say though that Don Pavlik's K-04'd A4 felt pretty damn fast too. I bet it'd give the S4 a good run for the money. The S4's clutch is definitely sticky, I guess you'd say it has a long travel before it picks up the gear, but once it does, this car's ready to move. Handling was excellent, myself and Bob W took it through a couple chicanes and we were mightily impressed. Although we both felt like the car could use a better tire. The tires were the limiting factor through the turns. When you're on the gas, this car just keeps pulling, although it appeared to me to run out of steam at the upper end of the rpm limit.

This wasn't a technical description, just a seat of the pants feel. There were only a couple other STAG members who got a chance to drive it. I'm sure they've opinions also.

I can't imagine what APR's chip will do for this car, I suppose we'll find out Oct 16th when APR comes to visit STAG & S.Texas!
