has anyone discovered an optimal sample rate that is higher then the default setting that does not distort communication? How do i change this in the software? thanks in advance.

I don't know of a way you can change it; the sample rate is based on your system's capabilities, how many blocks you're logging, and what other programs are currently running at the same time. For best results, close EVERYTHING other than VAGcom, including virus/firewall software that normally is open but hidden in the system tray, and only log one block instead of two or three.

AFIK the limiting factors are the K-Line and the controller you're speaking to, and not the computer or its serial port.

there is a limit to what rate you'll get but the factors I mentioned further degrade it. I spoke with Uwe on the phone about it for a while when I was having trouble getting the software up and running on my then-new laptop; when we finally got it going he mentioned a few things to get a better sampling rate, most importantly only logging one block at a time.

If you log three blocks simultaneously, the K-Line and the Controller get three times busier.

Trust me... The baud rates that are achieved by the car's bus are a bunch slower than the capacity of any semi-modern PC's bus and computational speed of its processor.

Weren't you at the BBQ last year? ;-) I think Uwe said that the K-Line only sees something like 9600 bps at best.

Take note of Uwe's newest cable solution. It has onboard electronics to negotiate the baud rates.
