This lady hit me going about 5 mph and the body shop said I need to replace the impact absorbers, which would be $287 after labor............well i pulled the bumper off and pulled the impact absorber right back out and put the bumper back on and looks good as new. :-)

that when you are going at low speeds like 5-15, 9 times out of 10 thats exactly what the body shop does and pockets the money for the impact absorbers.

As Audi4orce says...it's a one time use part. Pulling it out might get your bumper lined up, but the next 5 mph hit could mean that the impact absorber just folds, and your trunk takes the impact. I would never risk this over $300 in savings. On my old A4, I was hit from behind...bad enough to cause some minor damage to the trunk floor. The task of pulling the floor back into alignment was expensive as hell.

So you're basically f*cking the next person who owns the car because you're too cheap to fix it properly. F that. You should fix it correctly or at least disclose to the next person that it needs to be fixed.
