Default Shock question...

(and Kris is right, there are too many sub-forums), anyway,
are the 8D0-413-031 AE shocks (from a 98.5 1.8) usable in a 98.5 2.8 assuming I use the correct OEM or eurosport springs??

I'm trying to get an OEM sport suspension in my 98.5 2.8 (I already have swaybars f+r).

Thanks

Default um... 2.8 engine is most likey heavier than a 1.8T

so I'd say they might work but wont be correct and as such I'd skip since the labor involved is a pita.

Default Confused...

Later model a4 only spec. a single P/N for a type of shock as well as most aftermarket vendors. I understand the different spring rates required, but would they valve the shocks differently for a one hundred and forty-three pound difference?

They'll fit. Not sure if the damping rates are the same though. The 2.8 is heavier.

Default I've already given you my opinion

I get no pleasure from looking up shock/spring part numbers of which there are way too many.

Default Not asking you to lookup anything...

just that the weight difference is so minimal.

There is no need to reply and thanks for your opinion.

Default Different part no's for 1.8 and 2.8 sport suspension.

Granted, only the suffix is different. e.g.: front 1.8 sport shocks are listed as 8D0 413 031 BE whereas 2.8 sports are listed as 8D0 413 031 BG. This is for 99.5 A4 quattro, front dampers. Just a thought. The dampening might be different.

They most likely do not valve them differently.

Default Assuming that you had the proper springs for the 2.8, teh 1.8t or even S4 shocks should be fine..

The one caveat is that you try to use the shocks from the same year car front to rear, lest you have an uneven matchup, which could cause some odd chassis movements over bumps.
