Short on the control wire caused problems
A few years ago, a friend of mine installed a 300W amp to power a 12" sub in the trunk. The control wire for the amp developed a short last night and heated up to the point that it melted the plastic around the wire and melted a few other things along the way. I have removed the control wire and disconnected the amp. The control wire was inserted into a block (maybe it's called a thermal fuse?) behind the steering wheel and below the instrument cluster (not into the fuse panel, but behind it).
Here's the damage: my interior lights are acting a little screwy. The power window buttons are not illuminated with the headlights on and don't do anything when pressed, and my sunroof doesn't work, either. I had recoded the central locking system to automatically lock the doors at 5mph, and that doesn't happen anymore. However, I still can roll up/down all of the windows at once by holding down the unlock/lock button on the key remote.
I will trace the wiring for any damage caused by the overheated amp wire. Excluding comments about having a sub, any other suggestions?
