Default Smell coming from air conditioning and leather care

I have a question about my 2000 A4. I just purchased the car and love it but whenever I use the air conditioner system in heater mode I get a funny smell coming from it. The smell seams to be a plastic-type smell. Almost smells like plastic heating up. I know I am not describing this very well but I am not sure exactly how to explain it. Any suggestions as to what it is or what I should do about it.

I have read a bunch of the posts about leather conditioner and the conscensus seams to be that 'Hide Food' is the best to use. Since I live in North Jersey and it is getting quite cold should I wait until the spring to do something about the leather or is there a lower temperature leather condition/cleanser that I can use. The leather is not in bad condition or dirty but I jsut want to go through some car care steps. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Default does it smell like coolant? ...

If so, your heater core may be cracked.

As for leather: Lexol Leather Conditioner is great for me, but I only use it on the steering wheel and shift boot, as the rest of my upholstery is just leatherette.

Default

1) get a new pollen filter - clairparts.com or your dealer. 2) Lexol leather cleanser/conditioners.
