Default So I have Hawk HPS pads ...

i read about those pads and i was told they're great.I got the purems stage 1 brake kit for the front, regular zimmerman rotors for the rear, and regular carriers in the rear. The front has hawk hps and the rear has mintex red box.

Why doesn't my braking have that initial bite like the stock pads did? You sorta gotta press down then they stop on a dime, but there really isn't any initial bite.

Any idea why they wouldn't bite as much as the stock set up?

TIA

did you bed them in properly and get a good transfer layer on the rotor?

Default uhmmm, i just got the Hawk HPS also, with the A8 and same problem

and i have the same problem! I did the steps one by one as stated on ecs and still no initial bite.
it feels like there is a layer of oil on the rotors, you feel it grab but no hard braking.

Default I like mine, then again, I am comparing them to the mintex they replaced

I think Alpha has the right idea, if the lines are bled and there is no air in them, and the pads are bedded properly, they are a nice pad.

Default you have to bed them properly, if not it...

takes about a week to get the proper layer on there and then they work great. Give them time and you will see.

Default Interesting. I just put DBA 4000 rotors and HPS on all 4 corners of my S4...

I have about the same opinion as you.

The light braking is nice, the heavy braking is nice. But the shift from a light brake to a medium lacks the bite that I would have expected.

The modulation under heavy braking is quite nice.

Not to say that they're a bad pad or anything. They certianlly stop well, I just expected a bit more bite out of them.

I did bed them per standard bedding techniques. Maybe I'll go really heat them up with a couple of 70 - 5 mph stops out on the freeway... See what that does.

Default I'm running them front and rear on the GTI

Boxster calipers in the front, 11" rotor upgrade in the rear. Car stops without too much effort at all.
