So my dad came over wanting to drive my b5
I just recently got it.. sold my 94 90cs.. after he drove it he comented on how far out you need to release the cluch before it grabs.. now my 90cs was the same way.. is this normal.. or is it nearing time for a new clutch?

Curious, how far are you guys talkin? Mine grabs about an inch off the floor
Maybe an inch is a bad way to describe.. maybe a 1/5th of the way? That's close to me.. I have had other cars (not B5 A4) which were much further.... but typically by the time they were grabbing at the top, it was a sign of future clutch work.
I typically don't even have to lift my heel off the floor to use the clutch while driving... it's hard on the ankle and shin muscles though. (I don't drive using this method of course)

Either a portion of the clutch assembly is getting tired(or faulty), faulty slave, and or it has not been flushed in awhile. Ours happened to be a failing pressure plate. Installed a new Sachs clutch kit and it was like day one again.
Some I know view it as normal, but personally I think its dismissive. Its hard on the gearbox to drive a car in that condition but each to their own. You might consider flushing it out as a first step. The pedal will probably greatly improve.
