Default So why isnt removing the airbox prescreen a more popular mod?

Is this something that only applies to the 30v 2.8, or does the 1.8T have it too?

I just popped mine out (rainy day mod) and cant believe how restrictive this thing must be. I thought you had to cut it out, which is why I didnt mess with it before...but it turned out to be a serviceable part held in by just one screw.

Should be interesting to see if it makes a noticeable difference in throttle response.

Default People don't take it out because it's designed to keep larger items out of the airbox

like pepples, gravel and sand...and also to keep nesting animals out of the airbox (not kidding) if you get a good amount of sand in the airbox chances are it could sandblast a hole in the filter and trash the MAF and all sorts of other parts...turbo etc. Not a wise thing to remove from the airbox...it's there for a good reason.

Regards,

Default Thats what I was thinking too, until I noticed the fine sand that was in the airbox...

...which must have made it past the screen.

Even with that prefilter out, I figure its still not quite as extreme as a cone intake.

I'll drive it around for a while to see if I notice any difference, and if I dont it'll probably go back in. I was just wondering if it was in the 1.8T too.

Default Which side of the box tho .. it stops things on the outside . .I've never found any sand or debris

that got past it into the filter side. Fine dust yes but sand or pebbles no.

It was on the inside, past the screen...call it very large dust or fine sand.
