Default Sputtering, lurching problem, I am a newbie...I need your help.

Hi,
I had my 2004 A4 1.8T DPP-ed about 4-5 months ago at ECS TUning in Ohio and I just moved to FLA for the next six months. I got the APR exhaust too...and I am enjoying them both.

Since about 3 weeks ago...I have been getting a sputtering at low rpm's at a cold start. And it almost lurches until i get the RPMs up. It seems to go away after I get the engine warms up. My CEL goes on for about a day or two and then goes off....this happens sporadically.

I took the car in to have it VAG-ed at Key Audi in Jacksonville and they said the car was running rich but other than that...there was nothing off. They reset the CEL, but I think the problem will be back. I told them it happens mostly at a cold start or after letting the car sit for a while. They said I would have to get it towed by Audi Roadside to the dealer even if it was running so as to qualify for an overnight stay at the dealer. What a stupid policy.

So they reset the CEL but when it comes back on I will get the codes and I guess I will know more then. ECS TUning told me to get the codes and to call them back when I have them so they could diagnose the problem a little better, over the phone. I am thinking MAF sensor, since I re-oiled my k&n filter at 10,000 miles.

Any suggestions?
thanks,
David

Default MAF is likely a good guess. But get the codes.

MAF can cause rich or lean conditions, depending on the circumstance.
