Default Squeaking from rear end

I am on the verge of buying a 12v B5. The car seems to be in fairly good shape with one exception- the rear ends makes a horrible squeaking noise going over rolling bumps. The previous owner both sway-bars replaced and this did not correct the issue.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

Default the rear springs on the B5 are known to break and when they do they make a

squeaking sound. My guess is one or both rear springs are broken.

Default Re: Squeaking from rear end

the rubber of the rear control arm bushings tends to separate from the metal parts over time and you end up with rubbing which causes sqeaking. You can buy either the complete arm assembly with bushings pre-installed or just the bushings - which can be a pain to fit if you haven't the necessary equipment and temperament. IIRC the difference was about $50 per arm.
