Default Stage I vs. stage II performance? downside to exhaust mods?

hi,

As I approach my 1000mile breakin, I'm thinking more and more about chipping my little MY2000A41.8T.

I was just going to get a chip, but I see many people also do a full "cat back" exhaust also.

How much performance does the exhaust really provide, and is the modified exhaust offensive? I wouldn't mind a bit more noise, but I don't want to sound like a harley under full throttle...

Also, any opinions on the APR/Borla exhaust? It seems to be popular. Any downside or recommendations for another combination?

thanks in advance,

Love this site!

Francis

Default GIAC & Borla (More)

GIAC has been updating me with Beta testing versions (3rd now) Dynospot Racing Mt.View Ca.

Chip is as good as I would expect, APR I'd imagine would be about the same +/- Garrett boosts a bit higher!
Borla, is tight and un offensive, at highway speeds can't even hear it. When WOT sounds like a fine sports car!
Performance, not as great a difference as chip alone, but, with the turbo spinning the way it does now, Exhaust is an absolute benefit!
Any Chip / exhaust combo would do the trick, and if you do one, you should do the other! Turbos need to breath. Have a nice day!

Default Downside for exhaust = noise Upside = top end performance...more

I just got my Neuspeed exhaust(Borla) and you can definetly hear it. On the freeway you can barely hear it but whenever you step on the throttle you will hear ir for sure. The top end feels weak when you chip it, with the cat-back(downpipe too) the top end is much stronger and the mid and bottom is slightly. If noise is an issue go for the Supersprint(very quiet). If you want to take advantage of the chip you have to buy a filter and exhaust<p>Scott

$120 you could find less, but, Dick, Rob & Lynn are worth it to me.

Here in the BayArea, I don't see any reason to look any further! They even bought me a B-Day Cake!

Default NO WAY! I'm currently looking for a body shop..I wonder if they could recommend?

My wife put some nice work on the rear door and panel, and i don't want to use just any shop that AAA suggests.

I will definitely use Dynospot in the near future for other mods (exhaust/suspension). I also saw that you use Negherbon, and have had good luck with service. I'm fed up with Anderson-Behel, but i work in San Jose and live in San Fran, and it WAS convenient. Any opinion on Rector? Thanks for the advice.

Default Just got my Supersprint & I love it!

Quiet yet provides a significant performance gain. Well worth it!
