Default STEERING NOISE??

This seems to be a common problem with the A4 steering. When I spin the steering wheel to the left, and sometimes the right, I hear a loud squeal. The squeal can be heard from inside the cabin as well as outside. I couldn't pinpoint the answer to this problem through searchs. If you had this problem, what did you do to make the damn noise go away?? It also sounds like a creaking noise when I put up on the front left fender. I just had the control arm replaced, but it was making this noise prior to that. Any ideas??

Default Re: STEERING NOISE??

I just started having the same problem with the squealing turning almost all the way to the left or right. I notice it more when its warmer out. I checked the power steering fluid and that seems to be OK.
Anyone have some suggestions - could this be the power steering pump and if so can anyone comment on a ballpark cost on replacement?

A belt? Bad rack? Fluid level? Caps Lock?

Default probably still bad cv or another joint... i had the same thing happen..

have someone spin the wheel for you and see where the noise is coming from...and whatever wheel well...jack it up and check the joints...or get a shop to do that.. thats my advice... if it was the pump you would fell jerking in teh steering when turning(also could be fuild low).. let me know what happens

Default no i have a rubbing sound only when turning right, all the way through the turn, squealling i would

guess is a belt. check the tension on your power steering belt. otherwise i guess it could be coming from under the car as well. does it sound like it's in front of the driver or to the side?
