Default Steering rack leaking (again) at tie rod end and looking for an explanation...

I already searched the archives but ended up more confused - I think this will be the third re-built rack in past two years - shop is making manufacturer eat the cost, and is also replacing hoses and maybe pump.

Anyone know what is the source of the problem? Poor reman work? And is there a reliable solution???

Thanks much,

Seth

Default Usually its the Koyo 1.8T racks that fail, not the ZF 2.8 racks

Probably a poor re-manufacturing job.

not sure how the TRE's will help out the rack, perhaps you could explain?

Default Not sure - if the problem starts with leaks at joint between rack and tie rod....

then new / stronger design might help avoid failure....maybe???

Just go S4/Rs6 TRE's or CPP or Don Istook if you beefy and rebuildable.

Default I sure hope you're right as I had the same problem you have...

... my new rack is a bit noisy, I'm guessing it'll go soon too!

Default I run S4/RS6 and love them.....

Don Istook makes seeeek suspension items like CA's and TRE's and so does CPP. StartUp Racing sells Don's stuff and Tomaz seems to think it holds up better than even CPP.<ul><li><a href="http://awe-tuning.com/pages/shared/part_detail.cfm?PMaI=1&amp;PMoI=1&amp;PEI=2&amp;PP =a4_18t_suspension.cfm&amp;PPT=Suspension&amp;IL=c ppfronttierodends">CPP TRE's via AWE</a></li></ul>
