still having problems w/remote programming - some ???

Thanks for the responses.Regarding the "first click" is that when you turn the key about a 1/4 turn, there are no lights on dashboard or is the first click a full turn to where the dashboard lights come on? Have tried it both ways and the lights on the car do not flash after I have manually locked the driver side door (with first remote in ignition).Note that first remote stopped working about a year ago. Could never figure out how to change batteries so I just kept using the other remote. Following the procedure step by step does not seem to be working. Any other suggestions? Do you have to push the open button within a certain time interval of locking the driver side door? I'm sure I'm just missing something simple. Note

osted a new thread b/c the board is not showing the "respond to thread buton" which I think is b/c I set up the user preferences to show all responses at the same time. Thanks again.

I did that, lights do not respond when pressing remote (either one) I will try this again this afternoon but I have been following the printed directions step by step. Car is a 99 A4 1.8.

on my '97, once both keys were in and the car was locked. i had to hold my remote for a good 30...

seconds pressing 'unlock' and after about 30 seconds it seemed to realize what i was trying to do and it unlocked the doors.

Thanks, I will try that this afternoon. I have been doing the short squeezes based on the written instructions. The procedures vary slightly depending on the source (audiworld and vwvortex searches) For ex.some people mention the horn beeping others just lights making a short flash)Some mention a short time frame in which to press the unlock button the FOB others do not. Would not have thought to do this, hope it works.
