Default Stock 1.8T 170HP non-linear acceleration

I just got the 2001.5 Passat with the updated 1.8T engine. I'll bug you guys cause there isn't much experience yet on vw vortex and you have had the 170 HP engine on the A4 for a while longer.

Right around 2800RPM it feels like the accelerations levels off, and then around 3000 it seems to take off again. Sometimes it does it again around 4000RPM. I've also noticed surging when I'm in first gear.

Anybody determined what is causing this non-linear acceleration? Is it just the way it is or is there a problem?

Thanks

Default When you hit 3000 and feel a power surge, that's probably the turbo kicking in.

It takes a little while for it to spool up.

the turbo comes in at 1850 (I think) that surge is a coding issue with the ECU

Default The '01 A4 has a hesitation around there...

It is felt mostly in first and second at part throttle and more obvious with a chip. Someone said it was a bug in the ECU code, something about having too many things to do at once (I guess VVT starts changing around there).

The torque curve is pretty flat from 2000-5000 RPM in stock mode so it shouldnt be a boost issue unless you have a wastegate problem or the bypass is opening up by accident (farting sounds accompanies this).

Default I thought it was just my inexperience with a turbo. Happens to me too.

Although I cut my teeth on my mothers Saab 9000 turbo, that was years ago.

Default sorta noticed this.... however try this:

in 1st/2nd (second is easier to feel) give it more than average throttle, then ease off, then give it about that again. You will feel what you described. However, if you apply constant pressure all the way through the turbo's range, I don't think you'll feel it. Try that and see if you can tell a difference. I have a 01.5 A4 and it only feels like it hesitates I think because I spool the turbo, then kinda lay off the throttle and the boost is kinda wasted, then when you ease back ON the throttle, that boost isn't there and it has to spool again.... any ideas? Just my thoughts on it...
