Default Stock 2001 1/4 mi times inside

I took my A4 to the track tonight. I have a 2001 with Quattro, 1.8L, and 5 speed. My best time was 2.44(60ft)/16.57@85.33. I wanted a little faster but that is what I expected. The 60ft could be better. I thought I'd see a 2.2 60ft. My best was a 2.36. I'll try it again when I get a chip. I almost forgot I do have 18" wheels which slightly, but noticeably, decreased acceleration when they were first installed. And I only have 1700 miles so maybe it'll be a little quicker after I rack up a few thousand miles.

And yes the A4 is kinda slow. On my best run I lost to a kid in a stripped and gutted twin cam Dodge Neon (2.39 60ft 15.9@87.3).

Default very true

He had no back seat, no passenger seat, no windshell wipers, no wheel covers, plus I am sure he was missing other stuff I didn't notice.

Default I slipped the clutch at about 3000rpm

It was difficult to walk the fine line between clutch slip and bog. On my best 60ft I launched at 3000rpm and the car roller off the line smoothly, but the clutch grabbed and bog it down to 2500rpm after the 60ft mark. On the best run there was no bog, but I engaged the clutch more slowly.

Default Your car did not bog after the 60 ft mark. There is a few ways you can launch the car that will help

first one is rev the car to 3500-4000 rpms and let the clutch out fast and go wot a hair after you let the clutch out or rev to 3000 and when the lights start coming down start revving more so the boost will be going up and not sitting at 20 psi of vacume. This will help you get a 2.0-2.1 60 ft time and you should be running a 2001 at 15.7-16.0

Default maybe it wasn't after the 60ft mark

But, I had always called it a bog when launching and your rpm guage goes down as you engage the clutch and full engagement occurs at a lower rpm than you intended.

I tried the method you are describing, but I didn't get it correct. I saw you give that advice to some else, so I tried to use it at the track last night. I didn't rev up to 4000rpm and I didn't let the clutch out quickly. And more important I didn't go to wot after I let the clutch out. I'll try that next time. What happened on most lauches was that I would rev to 3k and slip the clutch off of the line. But before the wheels speed reached a point that would match the 3000rpm, the clutch would fully engage and ****** the rpm down to 2000. So at that point I just floored it and I don't have the power at 2000rpm. I guess it takes practice to get the right amount of slip and engagement without the grab. So I should run a 15.7@85, or should I be seeing more mph also. I crossed the line in 3rd. Shifting into 4th I only got an 80mph trap speed. Looking at my time slip it does seem if I ran a 2.1 60ft I'd get a 15.9x.

Also this track isn't that fast. When I run my Mustang here I is 1-2 mph slower than at other tracks in my area. And that is despite the fact that this is my home track where I make most of my runs.
