Street racers almost put an end to my new ride... and maybe my life!
I think the life of my car as well as myself and my roommate almost came to an end tonight! I owe the experience all to street racers on the highway. They didn't have dropped riced civcs, but SUV's.
I was driving in the middle of three lanes, going about 75 when before I knew it, there were headlights approaching fast in my rear view. They must have been doing about 100 'cause before I could even react, the SUV behind me was on my ***. I tried to punch it for what 5th gear is worth at 75 to get out of the way, but the SUV started swerving just as I was reacting. I swear to God that the guy swerved to avoid me missed the right tail end of my ride by less than 5 feet- pretty close for those speeds if you ask me. Had he clipped me, it could have easily sent my car out of control in to the middle divide at a good 75mph. It would have tested the Audi safety engineering, but let's hope no one has to test it. Unfortunately, the SUV driver lost control sliding his tires behind me as he careened off the highway. Meanwhile the other SUV continued on. My roommate called 911 as we hit the next exit to turn around and go back and check the scene. Sure enough, on the side of the shoulder, there were four boys and farther off into the bushes was a rolled over SUV.... Idiots.... Well, that's the glory of racing in traffic, I guess. For those of you in the Bay Area who just might have been driving on the 880 in San Jose at 1 in the morning, you could have waved to the fools on the shoulder right before the Coleman offramp at the airport.
Thank God everyone seemed to be OK, and if that little bit of pickup in 5th gear at 75 kept my roommate and me from ending up in the hospital or perhaps dead, then thank you to my new(2000+miles) A4 as well! Maybe I'm freaking about possibly dying, but it was surely a nerve wracking experience.
