They did....but every now and then you can find one on ebay or the classifieds...

The one I made is treated aluminum and thicker than the steel
it isn't going to have any problems. I picked it up from a metals supply shop. Its so hard it took me over 5 hours to shape the two ends with a dremel and die grinder and then drill the holes . It must be something like 7005 or the like in strength because its tough and about 3/8 to 7/16 thick. I can't quite remember but believe it was less than $10 for the bar stock. Yes steel has a higher tensile strength but with a piece of high strength aluminum of greater thickness I am close to the same #s in tensile and yield strength yet lighter and it wasn't expensive .
