Default This sucks............

I tried to do the A8 upgrade this afternoon but was not able to get the F%$king bolts loose on the front caliper and I didn't have a narrow enough wrench to get the rear ones off also. Are there any tips for how to get these off? I probably will just have someone else do it when I get my winter tires. This sucks though cause I really want to learn how to do a lot of this stuff myself.
Thanks for the help

Default Spray the bolts heavily with WD-40 or a teflon lubricant once per day and try again in 3 days.

Clean the excess with a rag so it doesn't get on the rotors.

Default even better, get some PB Blaster and spary it on those bolts. (more)..

Spray it on a few times every 5 min, then wait 30min. They WILL come off.

Default You mean the hex bolts at the inside end of the caliper?

Don't use a regular hex key. Those were torque to ~20ft-lbs, and the angle is not favorable to get good leverage. I had to get new a wrench to get those out.

BTW, the guy who wrote the tech section on brake upgrade was a Kryptonian (ie, could probably get the caliper springs out by hands, the caliper bolts were really loose, etc).

Default Two words...

Breaker Bar.

All kidding aside, I used a 2 foot breaker bar to do it. There is not alot of room but I set it so I could push down on it. Make sure you have the car supported well before attempting.

Yeah those ones. What about the rear? I need a narrow wrenh to get at the bolt.

Default Liquid Wrench is what I used... plus a 1ft. breaker bar... and then 6" stubby open end wrenches...

for getting the back calipers off. Also, I got a hex socket for my 3/8" wratchet wrench so i could get more leverage than a regular hex key.

hope this helps.
