switchblade keys
I need to order a new key and alarm thing and was wondering if anyone knew if the switchblade key is compatible with a 97 A4 alarm.
Also, if I but one off e-bay, can I send it in and have them replace the key part?

Yes
The switchblade will work with the '97, so just go ahead and buy the remote side off ebay, and then have clair or your dealer order you the key side. You will have to supply them with your VIN and registration proving that it is your car.

And one more thing....beware remotes for sale on ebay....
The remotes come in 2 pieces; the remote side and the key side. You cannot use someone else's key side, that part has to be ordered. SO you are really just bidding on the remote side and have no use for the switchblade side.
Each piece is about $45-$50 from clair, so if the key on Ebay gets anywhere above $38, screw it and buy them new from the dealer. The one on ebay is already going for something like $25, and that's only for 1 key.
When I wrecked my '98.5 A4, I sold my remotes on Audiworld classifieds - $50 for both delivered. I thought that was a fair price.
