I'll just go ahead and say it. I personally think that Subarus (other than the SVX) absolutely, unequivocally SUCK! Nobody makes a more zero, bland car than Subaru (and that includes GM).
I'm not saying that they're not rock solid reliable (which I've heard), or that they don't have a loyal following. Regardless, it's beyond me why any knowledgeable car enthusiast could find ANY compelling reason to hop into a Subaru other than the sheer $/HP (though that is a compelling lure) offered by the WRX.
Sorry for the vent. I guess I'm just bewildered at the amount of "playing time" the WRX gets on this Audi board. The "bond" of all wheel drive I suppose?

p.s. Well...while I'm on a rant, I'm not particularly found of the Jaquar X type either. Don't get me wrong, it's 10 times the car over the WRX, but the stylings seems to have gone BACKWARDS! Rather than taking cues from the gorgeous (and contemporary) S type, it looks like the old, stuffy XJ series. That's suppose to appeal to younger buyers?

My brother owns a rex...no problems and he lovesd it. With a new rubber adn perhaps a wheel upgrade you have a real deal. It'll spank most A4's in any auto-x, can take a real pounding thanks to a really well thought out suspension, and late next year when the sti is on these shores...well let's just say the $12,000.00 you save versus an Audi will go a long way toward that new Moomba ski boat.

The stock clutch is aweful. If you plan on doing any serious mods, you will probably need a racing clutch. My friend burnt his out in under 4k miles, and the guy at shop had to replace one after 1200 miles. They are definately serious bang for the buck. My friend's is a 12 sec car. If the fast and furious is what yuo want then it's a great car. What the car lacks, though, is the feeling of being in a refined automobile. The car drives like an econo car on steroids.

WRX is fast, but it's junk on the interior IMHO.
It's like Camarao SS. He had a refined piece of machinery and traded it in for a Camaro SS because he simply wanted to go fast. That car will fall apart in a year to a year and a half, but it will still go fast. An Audi isn't going to fall apart.

Subie sold in these parts in recent times. I think this car gets some play here because it raises an interesting debate - value for hp, or bang for the buck. It's got it, so can we overlook the fact that it aint from Germany? Some will say yes, some no.
And the X-Type is disappointing.
