Tappets????
hi all in need of sum advice!
my a4 1.8 Non-Turbo has developed a slight ticking noise when the car is standing idle (possibly also wen driving but can't hear it!). Do u's reckon its the tappets? Has any1 else had a similar problem, if so is it easy / cheap to fix????
any help much appreciated!

Difficult to answer that 1......
becasue it went in for a service 2 mths ago and the oil was changed then - never thought of asking wot oil they used. Do u think this could make the difference? Could it not more likely be wear n tear?

cheers 4 that.....
will giv them a call cos i've only got 108k on mine so it seems a bit funny that mine shud wear so early especially as i've spoke to others with a similar car and they've had no problems! And it also seem strange that i've only started to get this issue since that service was done! Wot weight oil do u recommend?

My 2000 1.8T with only 36K miles will do that if...
the oil is old/really hot and 5-30. Switched to 10-30 and that helped, but it has done it a *little* once. Synthetic oil also seems to help.
Don't worry about it too much, go to a heavier oil next time and change more frequently if you leave it at idle a lot as it can increase the amount of fuel that gets into the oil and thins it out. (so I've been told)
