Default When exactly did they fix the oil burning 2.0 TFSI??

Can anyone help with this question?

I've just bought a March 2012 post-facelift A5 2.0 Sportback with a CDNC engine, am I safe? Some say the post-facelift ones are safe while some say there's a few '12 plates affected.

When I bought it last Thursday, it asked me for oil about an hour out of the showroom. I'm hoping that's coincidence! Having put about .6L Castrol Edge 5W30 in it, the MMI has been erratic and it's not given a consistent reading, being anywhere between 3/4 and half full.

Any thoughts or definitive answers out there?

Thanks

Who told you the problem has been corrected?

It seems to be the common consensus online from what I can see.., at least for the 1.8, 2.0 TFSI and (I think) the 3.2 that they'd put in to A5's up til 2011 and early '12.

Not from what I've seen. I'm in the USA.

I know the oil consumption issue has been improved, but certainly not eliminated.

The guys in this thread have compiled a good resource for it, with the general advice being you're ok post facelift - and should therefore avoid the rebuilds/replacements process which Audi is now reluctantly carrying out due to scored bores and other damage.

Thing is, for me, I'm right on the cusp of when this was supposedly made rectified, so if I can establish whether A5's with the facelift are definitely in the clear, then I'll be able to breathe a sigh of relief and push on with re-registering it here in Ireland (imported from the UK).

Dub, I can appreciate that. Perhaps the engines and related emissions gear is less problematic long-term outside the USA. However, lots of reports on cars sold in this region still consuming notable amounts of oil. You'll have to hope for the best. They've be re-doing lots of engines here and there has been a class action lawsuit, etc.

Yep, have seen that. Also, it seems Audi are a lot more willing to stump up for the work depending on service history and thankfully mine has a FASH of 7 stamps. Slightly reassuring, but would obviously rather avoid the whole rigmarole entirely if I'm lucky!

First, this is the Q5 forum, not the A5 forum, so we really don't have an idea on when the A5 facelift took place, and what engine versions are installed.

In the US the Audi manual always "states" that you could use up to 1 litre of oil per 600 miles, and according to them that's ok and would probably hold up in court if pushed.

When I see this kind of bunkum from a big company I can't help but think damn i wish I was a lawyer. This is 2017 and a 58 Chevy with single grade oil could beat this by a country mile.Unacceptable !
